Elaine Chappelle wanted to be a chef at one point in her life, but now she is better known for being the wife of Hollywood personality Dave Chappelle. She is originally from the Philippines (some publications say she is from New York City), and her family came to the United States to give their family a better life. She and her husband have three children together.
Her Early Years
Chappelle was born Elaine Mendoza Erfe on August 31, 1974, to Philippine parents. Since marrying her husband in 2001 (some publications say 2004), she has gained notoriety as his wife. They have three children together, including one daughter, Sonal, and two sons, Ibrahim and Sulayman. She wanted to be a chef but changed her plans after her marriage to her husband. The two seem to have a blessed life that they thoroughly enjoy together.
Chappelle and her husband Dave have different religions, she being a Christian and Dave having switched from Christianity to Islam many years ago. Elaine Chappelle is 5’ 1” (some publications claim she is 5’ 4”) and has dark hair and dark eyes. She is a petite woman and very attractive, likely due to her Philippine background.
In addition to being Dave’s wife, Elaine has had a slight taste of fame. In 2017, she appeared in a backstage segment of The Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at the Hollywood Palladium. The couple own several houses in various places in Ohio, and they were first seen out in public during a Philippine-American picnic in Dayton, Ohio, which is when Dave’s fans discovered that he was married.
Family Comes First
For both Dave and Elaine Chappelle, family comes first, and by all accounts, their family is a close one. Dave even makes jokes about his wife and kids during some of his stand-up routines, but Elaine doesn’t seem to be bothered by them. In fact, she is a great sport about all of this, which shows you the strength of their relationship.
Indeed, Elaine Chappelle’s support of her husband seems to have made a big difference many years ago when Dave’s show, Chappelle’s Show, was canceled on the Comedy Central network. Elaine chooses not to have a career but instead prefers to take care of their home and raise their children, which doesn’t go unnoticed by her husband.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that she has left behind all of her interests in cooking, as her culinary delights please her entire family on a regular basis. Each night, she produces amazing dinners for her family to enjoy, making them very appreciative indeed.
These days, Dave and Elaine enjoy their family most on their 65-acre farm, and they also enjoy their $42 million net worth. Elaine is not active on social media and keeps her personal life very private, so little is known about her immediate family, schooling, and so on. In fact, as far as celebrities go, she is extremely low key and keeps a very low profile.
Not Always a Rosy Picture
When Dave first asked Elaine out, she was hesitant to go out with him because of his profession, but she eventually relented and began to date him. They spent several years dating and getting to know one another before marrying in 2001 (2004). Because she is the co-owner of many of Dave’s properties, Elaine’s net worth is approximately $50 million.
When Chappelle’s Show was canceled on Comedy Central network, it was a tough time for both Dave and Elaine, but they made it through without it interfering with their marriage. In fact, during the entire time the couple has been married, there have been no rumors of mistresses, infidelities, or anything else that is negatively related to their relationship.
In addition, when husband Dave took off to South Africa after his father’s death – while the two were still dating – Elaine ignored the many rumors swirling about and stood by her man, supporting him and encouraging him to do what he needed to do to make himself better. He eventually came back to the United States and picked up on his comedy career.
In the world of celebrities, close families and marriages that stay together seem to be rare, but Elaine Chappelle and her husband Dave have managed to have this and a whole lot more.
A Multicultural Life
Dave Chappelle’s mother is white, and he is married to a Philippine woman, so his children are definitely multicultural. He and Elaine live in Yellow Springs, Ohio, near Antioch College. It is at Antioch College that Dave’s father, William David Chappelle III, used to teach music.
Elaine’s children have Muslim names. Their son, Sulayman’s name, translates to Solomon, and son Ibrahim’s name means father of faith. It is unknown if their daughter’s name has any significant meaning in Islam.
Although Elaine Chappelle gave up her chance at a culinary career to marry Dave, it is not a decision she regrets. She and Dave seem to be very happy with their life choices, which is obvious every time they are seen together.
