Early Life, Education, and Career
Rich Lewis was born in southwestern Idaho in January of 1954. His affinity for nature began at a very early age, as he would explore the neighboring mountains rather than participate in extracurricular events at school.
As Rich grew older, he moved to Ruby Valley, Montana, where he has been living for close to 30 years.
Lewis’s love of nature became a local sensation to residents of Ruby Valley and the surrounding areas as he participated in several acts of heroism to put out wildfires and save cattle from predators.
He rose to celebrity status after the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks asked him to hunt a mountain lion that had killed several dogs, including his own hound Roxie.

Lewis shows true passion for his lifestyle, and his dedication to protecting the Ruby Valley landed him a lifelong career as a defender of the mountains.
In 2012, he signed a contract with the History channel to appear on the TV series Mountain Men. His first debut on the show aired in 2013, and he has appeared in a total of 83 episodes.
The reality TV series showcased Rich’s daily life in the rugged wilderness. For four years, the nation watched as he exercised his hunting and tracking skills.
