Lil Darkie is a controversial rapper with a huge following on SoundCloud and some of the most provocative lyrics in trap metal music.

Darkie’s Career’s Background

He started rapping at 17 years as Brahman before he changed to Lil Darkie when he left a film course halfway and began his career in rap.

He began to rise musically in 2019 for his single Holocaust, which drew an audience for its unique style and the boldness of his lyrics. To some, the words were vulgar and not suitable for a general audience on the Internet, and to others, even the cover art, which had his cartoon dressed like the World War Axis Forces, was disturbing.

The negative response made some of the social media platforms react, and Spotify took his music down briefly. Before long, he lost his Instagram account too because his music was allegedly violating the rules. His two other songs, HAHA and Genocide, received criticism, but HAHA made him a TikTok sensation and propelled his brand further. In most of his songs, he calls out social media platforms for censoring content from artists.

Darkie’s fame transcends the traditional music industry to win fans on social media, making him an influential personality with over 130 tracks on SoundCloud. Most of the titles of his songs are not conventional content, always having dark humor or depicting a provocative thought. You’ll come across phrases like “The Grinding of a Politician’s Skull,” “Satan Lives in Hollywood,” and “Hanging Myself” as you go through his tracks on SoundCloud.

He is part of the Spider Gang, which he started with Wendigo, Lil Cubensis, Cxrpse, and other artists. His other group, Gunk Rock, is a three-artist collaboration between him, Eddison, and Fl.vco, and they have one album out.

Accusations of Racism

He has been a controversial artist throughout his career. The cartoon representation he uses in his videos, which he created, resembles a racially offending image used on a toothpaste brand manufactured in China in the 80s. However, he refuted the claims saying it was a piece of art not intended to pass any offending message.

His songs focus on taboo topics like racism, sex, suicide, gun violence, and religion, often saying the words that most rappers would censor in a song. These have seen some of his videos flagged for explicit content because of the uncensored swearing and the use of racial slurs. In one of his videos, he explains that he does not see words that depict race and sexual orientation as reasons to take offense, because for him as a person of mixed race, racial slurs are not his identity and others should do the same.

He has openly stated he is bisexual, and he has kept his love life, family, and childhood private. One of the few things he has talked about is his desire to cut back on drugs such as alcohol and tobacco as he continues to rise as an artist.

For an artist whose career grew amidst controversies, Lil Darkie is weathering many storms to become a top rapper in trap metal. Listen to some of his tracks or go through his social media accounts and you’ll find that he has a versatile talent because he also paints and designs the animations on his covers.
