Her Career Background

Her second job in the culinary world was at Bon Appetit, a magazine under the Conde Nast Entertainment brand, where she worked from 2013 as the magazine’s editor. A few years later, she developed recipes and hosted the Gourmet Makes YouTube channel series for this brand.

The show was a huge success as she would take regular snacks and turn them into finger-licking desserts.

Out of the success of this series, the magazine launched two more shows for her. Claire starred in the magazine’s Baking School and in Making Perfect. She also earned a spot on The Tonight Show, where Jimmy Fallon featured her in the cooking segment.

In October 2020, she left Bon Appetit expressing her discontent after reports that Bon Appetit was not paying people of color for appearances in their shows. Claire had informed her fans about her plans to leave that brand as early as May 2020.

Shortly after she left, she launched her first cookbook titled Dessert Person: Recipes and Guidance for Baking with Confidence, and she received overwhelming support from her fans, making the book a New York Bestseller.

Claire launched her YouTube channel in August 2020, and though it is only a few months old as of January 2021, it has over 500,000 subscribers and over 5 million views. As of 2022, her channel has 1,01 million subscribers.

Most of her videos get close to 1 million views. On this channel, she demonstrates the recipes featured in her book. For instance, she shows how to bake a carrot and pecan cake and oatmeal cookies.

She has an Instagram following of over 900,000 fans, and her content showcases diverse dessert recipes.

Other Accomplishments

Her book’s website also sells merchandise like tote bags, dyed t-shirts, and postcards.

Personal Life

She is married to Harris Mayer-Selinger, a fellow chef, and they live in New York. Claire announced her marital status in a post on her Instagram account in September 2020 as she also informed her fans that she was about to launch her cookbook.

In conclusion, Claire may have walked away from one of the most lucrative opportunities for a pastry chef, but launching her YouTube channel and writing a cookbook has helped her create a platform where she can engage her audience the way she likes.
