She was born to Vincent Paul Conroy(her father, who had Irish ancestry) and Ossie Hardman(mother).

Early Years

Frances Conroy’s father was a business executive. Her mother also had a business career. The actress attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, before moving to New York, where she joined the Julliard School–Drama Division Group at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater to study drama. The American Horror Story actress studied there alongside several actors and actresses, including Robin Williams, Kevin Conroy, Kelsey Grammer, and Harriet Sansom Harris. For starters, these four are best known for their roles in Good Morning-Vietnam, Batman, Cheers, and Desperate Housewives, respectively.

The Begining of Her Acting Career

Frances began pursuing her acting career back in the 1970s when she started appearing in different theater groups, including the Acting Company– a professional theater company that stages and performs plays in different American cities.

However, it was in 1980 when the actress made her initial breakthrough at the Delacorte Theater by playing the role of Desdemona in Othello. Here, she played alongside Raul Julia and Richard Dreyfuss. Later on, she proceeded to act in different television series and films, including the mentioned above. Since then, she has played roles in nearly 104 films, TV series, and other related works.

Frances in American Horror Story

Frances was cast in a new drama series called “American Horror Story: Murder House” in 2011. After the premiere season, which received a lot of favorable press, it was revealed that the show was an anthology with entirely new characters in each season. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for the fifth time for her involvement in the first season. She continued to participate in the “American Horror” series, taking on various roles in the “Asylum,” “Coven,” “Freak Show,” and “Roanoke” seasons. She played a variety of parts in each series, each one extremely different from the one before. Along with co-star Lily Rabe, she is one of only two performers to have starred in every season of the show “Cult,” which will feature her in its sixth season.
